“Turn your face to the sun,” is my second work for the somewhat unusual combination of oboe, viola and harp.
Program Note
The title of the piece comes from a Maori proverb, the full text of which is: Turn your face to the sun, and the shadows will fall behind you.
This proverb suggests that we can choose to take a positive attitude toward our lives.
Performances
It was premiered by the Toiyabe Trio at The Fallon Theater, in Fallon, Nevada, on September 27, 2025, and at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Reno, Nevada, on October 25, 2025, both concerts presented by the Toiyabe Chamber Music Society.
