This work for solo violin borrows its theme from Jean Alain’s ‘Litanies’ for organ. Rather than adhering strictly to the form of the theme, each of twelve variations strives to evoke a different mood. Along the way, we encounter a variety of musical styles, ranging from baroque idioms to a fiddle tune; there is even one rather jazzy pizzicato variation.
